How The Army Knowledge Online StartedĪrmy Knowledge Online started as an experiment in the1990s. AKO also expanded to the wider DoD community via Defense Knowledge Online, which is essentially just a rebranding. One out of every two deployed soldiers visits the portal every day for missions and personal purposes. as we have mentioned earlier in this article, AKO is considered “the largest intranet in the world”. This makes Army Knowledge Online the US Army’s only corporate collaboration tool that is operating in the Department of the Army. For the AKO Army Login, a ll members of the National Guard, active duty, Reserve, selected contractor workforce and Army civilian personnel have an account that can grant access to global Army cyber assets, tools, and services.Īll authorised users can create pages on the portal, and be able to create file storage areas, and also create and take part in discussions.ĪKO is a platform that provided a level playing ground and creates a palatable place for the Army with a single point of entry to access the Internet and share knowledge and information.
